What is required for the uniform?
We know uniforms can be a big expense, so do what works best for your family. For everyone (except Lions) the Class A uniform includes a shirt with patches, neckerchief, and slide. Lions wear the official Lion t-shirt (no patches), neckerchief, and slide. For all ranks, the hat, pants, and socks are optional, add them when you can.
We encourage Lions through Bears to have a belt so they can wear their adventure loops. Webelos and AOLs earn adventure pins, which are displayed on their ribbons.
Ideally, uniforms should be worn at all meetings, but Pack t-shirts or other Scouting America shirts are always welcome. We ask Scouts to wear their uniforms for Pack meetings unless we say otherwise.
Where do I get the uniform?
We do have several options:
Online at the Scout Shop
Tuckahoe Scout Shop - 400 Tuckahoe Road Dillsburg PA 17019 (717-795-2703)
Resellers such as - Facebook Marketplace, eBay, thrift stores and more
Pack 89 has a community lending closet with uniforms available to borrow. When your Scout outgrows theirs, please return it so another family can use it. If you chose to use this option, see Pam Throop or Erin Gagabuan.
Do I need to get a Cub Scout manual?
The handbook is an essential part of the Cub Scout experience, it includes the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and everything a Scout needs to learn and grow. Think of it like a carpenter’s toolbox, You can’t build much without the right tools.
If printing one is more cost-effective for your family, check with your den leader ahead of time so you know which adventures they’ll be working on. Please contact Pam Throop for the PDF of the Den you need. We plan to have them on the website soon!
Must my child participate in all activities?
No, your child doesn’t need to do every activity. That’s the beauty of Scouting - you pick what fits your schedule. We know families are busy! Just remember, Den and Pack meetings help Scouts complete Adventures, while extra activities build community, add fun, and offer service opportunities.
How much are activities?
Costs vary by activity. We do our best to keep them low, but some fees (especially for Council or District events) can’t be avoided. If you ever need assistance, please reach out to the Leadership Team.
Do I need to stay with my child for meetings and activities?
If your Scout is a Lion or Tiger, an adult must stay with them at all meetings and activities. We’re a family pack and love when everyone joins in! If something comes up, please talk with the leadership team before dropping off your child.
Can I volunteer without leading a group?
Absolutely! It takes a village, and everyone has something to offer. We’ll find a role that fits you just right—just be sure we have your talent survey so we can match you to your sweet spot!
Is there a cost to have me volunteer?
Because we value our volunteers, we cover the leader registration fees for those actively helping within the Pack. The required background checks would also be free for you to obtain as a volunteer.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Talk with the Cubmaster or Committee Chair to find the spot that fits you best within the Pack.
